Chemical nature |
The chemical formula is Eu2O3. Molecular weight 351.92. Light rose red powder, hygroscopic, with a slight difference in color due to different preparation methods. With different heating temperature, two variants of quasi cubic system and equiaxed system can be obtained, and the crystal structure of the latter is the same as that of scandium oxide. The relative density is 7.42 and the melting point is 2330 ℃. It is insoluble in water, can be dissolved in inorganic acids to form trivalent europium salt solution of corresponding acids, and can also be dissolved in formic acid and acetic acid to absorb carbon dioxide from the air to form carbonate. Europium oxide is mainly used as red phosphor activator for color TV, phosphor for high-pressure mercury lamp, stimulated emission phosphor of new X-ray medical diagnosis system chemicalbook system, etc. Europium oxide can also be used to make colored lenses and optical filters, magnetic bubble storage devices, nuclear reactor control rods, shielding materials and structural materials. Preparation method: it can be prepared by heating oxalate and nitrate at low temperature to decompose them. Europium oxide toxicity: the salt of rare earth elements in rare earth oxides can reduce the content of blood zymogen, inactivate it, inhibit the production of thromboplastin, precipitate fibrinogen and catalyze the decomposition of phosphate compounds. The toxicity of rare earth elements decreases with the increase of atomic weight. Wear a gas mask when working. If there is radioactivity, carry out special protection, and prevent dust from scattering.

Use |
Used to make metal europium and color TV phosphors.
Used as activator of red phosphor for color TV, phosphor for high pressure mercury lamp.
Used to make metal europium and make color TV phosphors.
Used as an activator for a variety of phosphors, it is a necessary material for red phosphors, and can also be used as a control material for atomic reactors. |
production method |
The extraction method uses the rare earth chloride solution obtained from the treatment of monazite or mixed rare earth ore as raw material. It is extracted with P204 kerosene HCl RECl3 system. Firstly, neodymium and samarium are grouped, and the raffinate is used to extract light rare earths. Samarium and heavy chemical Book rare earths are extracted into organic phase, and then medium and heavy rare earths are back extracted with 2.0mol/lhci to obtain medium rare earth samarium gadolinium enrichment. After reducing with zinc powder and extracting europium by alkalinity method, europium oxide is prepared by oxalic acid precipitation, separation, drying and burning. Its Eu2(C2O4)3→Eu2O3+3CO2+3CO |
